Topics getting the most attention in Rowlett public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
City Manager Search
Rowlett is about to get its new top administrator. Four finalists went through interviews, community tours, and a public meet-and-greet, and the council has now picked one — the name will be announced once a term sheet is signed. The city manager runs day-to-day operations, so this hire shapes services, staff leadership, and how City Hall works for residents.
Public Safety Radio System Procurement
The shared radio system with Garland, Mesquite, and Sachse is at end-of-life — Motorola is running out of parts. The fix: $4.3M for the backbone plus $1.1M for 174 handheld radios, about $950K a year in debt for seven years.
Animal Shelter Location Concerns
Residents and board members raised concerns regarding the proposed Schrader Road location for the new animal shelter, citing potential noise issues from a nearby fire station and increased costs. Council approved design contract Amendment 4 while requesting an independent noise study and expert review.
